We got in contact with one of our botball groups. We had a teleconference with them during their meeting."	"So, it was pretty hard getting in touch with our botball team. The phone we called them on was in a closet. I think that we are going to have an interersting time remaining in close cotnact. Their problem was that they were not using any semicolons in their program..."

They really thought, as I did at first I guess, that this course would be a knowledge and application based course more than a service learning course. - There were no take away lessons in what I did during spring break."

I did searches on the interet and browsed my ECE361 files as well."	"My only problem this week was that I was planning on doing work with the North Vigo team, but unforseen problems arose with my projects at Rose-Hulman Ventures and I had to come in to do work instead. I am eager to see what ideas my other teammates have come up with, but I am also doubtful that any significant work will have been done by some of the members, who have so far been less than enthusiastic about the class. I think one of the challenges with the pair programming style of work will be getting everyone to participate equally. One of our teammembers has been very uncooperative this quarter and I don't think he's going to change. Hopefully he will be able to contribute something though!"

"Our robot, as I currently see it, will be composed of different parts, probably 2-3 pieces. We want to ensure that our botguy on our side gets picked up or protected in some way throughout the match. We also want to block the other team's scoring area, because there doesn't seem to be anything in the rules that specifically prohibits this. We may also have a piece that, after the 20secs of not being able to goto the other side expires, will then go over there and in general wreck havoc."

We determined that we would finish up brainstorming with the students in order to get them ready for building. Everything went well. THe only problem that we ran into was the way we sorted ideas was different betweeen the two groups, but Kimbrell and I were able to make it all work out."

"	"I came up with three main strategies to work on. The first being keeping the other robot from scoring. This can be done by confusing the robot, taking away their scoring items, blocking the robot from entering the scoring zone, and/or guarding their scoring basket. Ther other two strategies/problems that need to be worked on are creating a robot that can easily navigate the course over the PVC pipes and working on a scoring strategy."

This included checking for any new surveys online. On Sunday I received an email from Dr. Mutchler regarding the surveys."	"I didnt really have any problems over the break. On the other hand, I didnt really get anything accomplished either. This was because the surveys werent online when I was checking. I know my team was scheduled to meet with Woodrow Wilson on Friday. I would like to find out in class today how that went. My team was planning on brainstorming this the students to help them move a little further along with their robot."

I worked on programming for the camera using the Handyboard. I worked on understanding the mindstorm brain."	"The biggest failure was that I was unable to get the function that would get a certain number of ticks on a motor. All I could do was get it to go for a certain amount of time. I was also not very successful in programming for the camera (It was very difficult). I was, however, very successful in gettting the mindstorm robot to do almost everything I wanted, so I am now much more fluent in the IC programming for the mindstorm brain."

Talking, planning, discussing ideas with friends and family and pouring over rules and regulations."	"Lots of work over spring break. And most of it was figuring out what we can and cannot do for our robotics project. Unfortunately, most of the time was spent up at a cabin with no real internet connect. However, I was able to download the rules off the internet and started to toy around with some ideas I had for robots. I hope we can kind of keep it to the "KISS" idea of robotics. Definately figure that a more defensive strategy would be perfect for what we have in mind. From what I have read, there is nothing against use using the barrier as a method of keeping them from scoring lots of points. I also noticed that they did not mention anything about dropping balls back INTO their starting bins for the opponents. Definately a killer idea. I also have toyed with a few random ideas about rubber band machines that quickly reach out and grab stuff, but that 20 second timer is going to make things difficult. I hope to share all my newfound knowledge with my teammates and see how they react."

I also spent some time thinking about what our beyond botball bot should look like and what it should do to win. "	"The Centerville team seems to be coming along fine, although they are having some difficulty with the code. Hopefully the reference sheet and examples that we post online will be helpful to them. Also, I decided that a pirate ship bot that sets up a blockade in the neutral zone would be a fun and effective strategy. "
