PH 235 Fall 2000 Grade Policy

Exams

Minimum requirements:

You must turn in at least 3 satisfactory reports of experiments done during the quarter in order to pass the course. I will identify which experiments these are; probably one on rotation, one with coffee filters, one on heat capacity of liquid nitrogen, and one on thermal conductivity of materials.

Additional points are accumulated as follows

These points will be scaled to a total of 300, after making allowance for some slippage (the 'maximum' will probably be set to around 90% of the points available, so that a person achieving 90% of the points available will have a scaled score of 300)

Total points = 300 (hour exams)+ 200 (final) +300 (other) = 800.

I do not have a rigid point scale (A >90, B>80, etc.) but my grades tend to fall in this general range.

The final exam can play a tie-breaking role in assigning grades (for students with the same total points, a student who did noticeably better on the final exam will get the higher grade.
