Knives

I recently got interested in knives. This knife was built from a kit. The wood inlay is ebony and the blade, I ground from a piece of Damascus steel which my blacksmithing buddy Max gave to me. Our paper had a beautiful write-up on the knives he makes.

The image on the left shows the blade after it was etched. I decided to slightly redo the knife as it did not open and close properly. While I had the blade out, I hardened and tempered it twice, as I tempered it too much on the first attempt. The upshot is that when I was all done, I was able to polish one set of layers to a mirror shine, increasing the contrast between the layers. You can see the knife as it is right now on the right. As you can tell, I need to redo the pin as I apparently did not peen in sufficiently.
