Professional Background

Vice President for Academic Affairs Dean of the Faculty (2001-2010), Professor Emeritus of Physics and Optical Engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. B.S in physics from Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida in 1965. M.S. (1972) and Ph.D. (1976) at Montana State University , thesis advisor Professor V. Hugo Schmidt.

My thesis work involved the study of the tricritical point in KDP . After finishing my Ph. D., I taught for ten years at the Montana College of Mineral Science and Technology in Butte, Montana. While there, I consulted for Mountain States Energy and developed an interest in ceramics and unusual applications of MHD.

Since coming to Rose-Hulman in 1986, I have pursued my interests in holographic interferometry (including some biomedical applications), and optics.

I have an abiding interest in interesting physics demonstrations and laboratories . A preprint of my latest article is available; I would appreciate any comments or suggestions. Recently I have tried my hand at writing physics textbooks and instructional materials,
