Quizzes and/or In-Class Writing on the Reading

Anytime that reading is assigned, there may be a quiz or brief in-class writing that will allow you to demonstrate that you read and understood the assignment.  Since this is one tool for assuring that you regularly attend class and are prepared to contribute, there will be no direct make-ups on quizzes or in-class writing.  However, because I understand that most people must miss occasionally for illness, job interviews, and the like, you may replace up to three missed quizzes or in-class writings by completing an outside-speaker evaluation form.  (If you complete one or more forms and they are not needed as replacements, then they become extra credit for this portion of your grade.)
