A Short Term Mission in Russia

Two weeks in May or June

Working Side by side with Russians!

[Page revised 03/31/2004

This mission is not a project or program of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The ideas and opinions are those of the author and not the Institute. The mission is an independent program sponsored by the Terre Haute District United Methodist Churches and the Russian Initiative of the General Board of Global Managers of the United Methodist Churches of America. The program is merely promoted by Peter Priest, a retired Rose-Hulman professor of Russian, who is merely continuing his life's work of helping young people become acquainted with Russia.]

Doing Socially-Useful Work in a country devastated by the 70-year Marxist-Leninist-Stalinist Experiment.  Leave behind your legacy of socially and spiritually relevant relationships, scripts (for new behaviors), understandings (new viewpoints), facilities, and/or organizations.  Be a catalyst for change.

  • Draw Inspiration from the Russian Past.
For over 1,000 years, the unique Russian spirit has gifted the world with unforgettable monuments of literature, music, art & architecture.  Experience the source culture of the  classics of  Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Pushkin, Pasternak, the inspiring music of Tchaikovsky,  Rachmaninov, Rimsky-Korsakov, Mussorgsky,  Stravinsky,  the life-affirming art of  Rublyov, Repin, Perov,  Vrubel, Chagall, Kandinsky, Maleyevich, and many others.  Bring back a re-awakened & supercharged YOU!

  • Come Together in Love, Fellowship and Worship with like-minded people from your own area and from the Russian communities we visit.   Return with life-long friendships, maybe an enduring love.

  • Share your feelings and beliefs  with ordinary Russians.  You are part of the worldwide body of Christ on earth (1 Cor 12:27). “Christ has no body on earth but yours, no hands but yours, no feet but yours…Yours are the feet with which he is to go about doing good.” (Teresa of Avila)   Go and be Christ-like!
