Eisenhower Decides to Run: Presidential Politics and Cold War Strategy
(Ivan R. Dee, 2000).

Pickett shows how international events and Eisenhower's own sense of duty combined to pursuade him to enter presidential politics; how he began exploring the possibility in 1948; and how in 1951, from his post as NATO supreme commander, he secretly authorized his Republican supporters to begin formal campaign activity. It has been described as "a valuable contribution to our knowledge and understanding of one of the pivotal decisions in the history of the modern presidency."

Dwight David Eisenhower and American Power
(Harlan Davidson, 1995).

In this comprehensive yet concise biography, Pickett skillfully narrates Dwight David Eisenhower's remarkable odyssey from a small town amidst grain elevators on the golden plains of central Kansas to West Point, the deserts of North Africa, the beachheads of Normandy, the presidency of Columbia University, NATO's first military commander, and, finally, to the Oval Office--in many ways his personal journey as fantastic as the United States' meteoric rise during the first half of the twentieth century to an unprecedented global influence.

Homer E. Capehart: A Senator's Life, 1897-1979
(Indiana Historical Society, 1990).

Homer E. Capehart's life is a remarkable success story. Lacking any formal education beyond high school, Capehart was a self-made millionaire by the 1930s. Turning to politics, he made a career out of opposition to big government and support for an anti-interventionist foreign policy. Described by Indiana Magazine of History as "a worthy biography of this important Hoosier politician, one that deserves attention from all interested in Indiana and American political history in the postwar years."
