The
Aviators
Project
Main Page
On the eighteenth day of February in the year 2009, a
challenge was presented to The Aviators: Nobie Redmon, Morgan Lopez,
Nolan Roberts, Kevin Faul. The Aviators were to create a Matlab
program that would calculate the variables needed to fire a projectile
from a cannon, and hit a target. From this Matlab program, they would
then create a program in Working Model to confirm trial results.
Click the links above for more detail.
This is a simplified representation of the set-up for the Challenge.
Shown on the left is the air cannon apparatus. It will be propped up on
blocks of differing heights (y1 and y2) and will fire a projectile at
the target (circle at the top right). This setup is shown in more detail
on the Apparatus
page.

As mentioned, we used a Matlab program as well as a model made in
Working Model to compute our "solution". And in the end, our programs
worked in concordance, though we had very interesting Results. These
files can be found in the Appendices
section.
