Advanced Engineering Mathematics
This is a course in vector analysis and partial differential equations, from a linear algebra perspective. We will cover (parts of) chapters 3-8 and 13 of the text. This is material similar to that found in MA330, MA336, and MA371/373, but the material from the first two courses is covered at a higher level and from an integrated, linear algebra based perspective. The purpose of the course is to prepare students for the mathematics typically encountered in first-year graduate-level courses in the physical sciences and engineering. The MA590 version will require additional homework.
There will be three midterm exams (10% each), a final exam (30%), and ten weekly homework assignments (40% total). Attendance is expected, and absences beyond four may result in a grade penalty.
MA490 Prerequisite: MA211 and MA212 and Y4 standing.
MA590 Prerequisite: Graduate standing.
