| An apparatus for visualizing frequency response |
Richard A. Layton and Devdas M. Pai

A second-order, mass-spring-damper apparatus was developed to help students visualize amplification, resonance,
attenuation, and phase angle in mechanical systems. The apparatus was developed as a design project involving both
graduate and undergraduate students. A prototype of the apparatus is complete and work is underway to correct
design deficiencies and produce an improved apparatus. This paper describes the work in progress to develop a final
apparatus for student use.
