| MA 490 Topics in Tensor Calculus |
4 credits |
Prerequisites: Instructor Permission
Students should have had MA421 Tensor Calculus and Riemannian Geometry to gain the most
out of this class, necessary alternate prerequisites are MA330 and MA371. |
Course Description
This special topics course is a further exploration of tensor calculus concentrating
on Lie Groups, Fiber Bundles and tensor analysis on such manifold structures. Lie Groups are
algebraic groups with a manifold structure. Fiber bundles are an extension of tangent
spaces to look at structures such as a Mobius band or a Klein bottle or a torus as objects over a circle.
Applications to gauge theory (Yang-Mills theory) and particle physics may be given as
time permits. |
