Faculty Development Grants
Objectives
To encourage and facilitate faculty projects of an international, intercultural character which will have a clear and direct impact on undergraduate teaching. If possible, work undertaken should also have applicability on other campuses.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the program, faculty must be teaching undergraduate courses, full or part time, at an ICIP member institution.
Stipend
Grants, ordinarily no more than $2,000, may be used for faculty development expenses. The number of grants and their amount will depend upon available funds and the merit of proposals. Applicants are encouraged to seek matching or supplementary funds from their institutions or other outside sources.
Obligations
Grant recipients must file a written report with the Executive Director of ICIP within one year of the awarding of the grant. The recipient shall be permitted to share the results of this work with the ICIP member institutions through individual contacts and conferences.
How to Apply
The applicant must include the following items in the order listed:
1. The ICIP check sheet, completed, and signed by the ICIP Representative or Alternate, and attached to the front of the application
2. An itemized budget including all projected sources of funds, not to exceed one page. (Use the ICIP budget sheet which should follow the check sheet.)
3. A description of the project (not to exceed three pages), including a statement of the techniques to be used and an estimate of the impact of the project on the applicant's campus.
4. A statement of the preliminary work already accomplished or underway, not to exceed one page.
5. A one page curriculum vitae.
6. A letter from the applicant's immediate academic supervisor indicating the relevance of the project to the applicant's responsibilities, the prospects for the completion and sharing of the project's results, and the support of the supervisor.
7. Ten copies of the proposal must be submitted.
Please Note!
ICIP Faculty Development Grants generally may not be used to fund released faculty time or the acquisition of non-reproducible materials. Requests of funding for travel and related per diem expenses will be looked upon favorably only in cases where 1) such travel will contribute directly to internationalizing the curriculum as it relates to other societies, cultures, or languages, and 2) the proposed curricular benefits cannot be obtained except by such travel.
Deadlines
These grants are awarded twice yearly. Applications for grants to be used during the summer and fall semesters should be submitted on or before March 14th of any given year. The deadline for the second block of grants is September 1st. Grants from applications submitted in March will be awarded in April, and grants from applications submitted by September 1st will be awarded by October or November.
