The Summary is the most important section of any report. The individual to whom the report is submitted should be able to learn everything of importance from reading the summary alone. Under no circumstances should this section exceed a page and a half in length. You must decide which ideas are the most important in the report body and conclusions, and state those ideas clearly, concisely, and logically in the summary. If you cannot write the summary in the space allowed, you have not been sufficiently selective, or do not understand what you have done. Although the summary is the opening section of the report, it should be written last.
