The purpose of this exercise is for you as a student to improve and become more comfortable with oral presentations which will be an essential part of your professional careers. It is much better to practice in front of your peers in a relatively non-threatening environment than it is to screw-up in front of your boss. Oral and written communications skills will be an important factor in your success and you will improve with practice.
Guidelines:
All group members should take part in the presentation
Appearance is important. The appearance of all group members should be neat, clean, and alert. Suits or dresses are not required in this course, but by the time you graduate you should be comfortable speaking in formal business attire.
Practice your presentation! Video taping equipment is available for your practices. Faculty members may be invited to your practices to observe and offer suggestions.
Maintain eye contact. Relax. Speak clearly. Use good visuals. But above all else BE ORGANIZED.
During the presentation you should:
Identify each member of the group and give the title of the project.
State clearly and briefly the purpose of the project.
Explain the experimental arrangement and procedure. Photos, schematics, and/or detailed drawings are essential here. If the apparatus is easily portable, use it in your explanations.
Describe the testing schedule.
Present results. Graphs are best when appropriate. Detailed tables usually present too much data to be comprehended in an oral presentation. Give abbreviated tables. Be sure to make comparisons clear. Distinguish experimental results from theoretical results. Relate results to purpose.
Give conclusions and recommendations.
Answer questions as clearly and concisely as possible. Be frank
