ES406 OBJECTIVES In this course the student is expected to gain some expertise in the area of dynamic analysis of vibratory mechanical systems. In order to meet this objective a certain level of competence in both mathematics and the analysis of dynamic systems is required. It will be assumed, therefore, that you are able to solve problems involving linear ordinary differential equations and are familiar with Laplace transforms, Fourier Series, and the material covered in the prerequisite course, ES205. If you are having trouble in these areas you should consult the instructor as to an appropriate course of action, but do not expect the instructor to devote class time to this material. INSTRUCTOR
HOMEWORK Regular
reading assignments and solution of homework problems are essential for the successful
completion of this course. Reading
assignments appear in the course outline, and homework problems will be assigned each day. The homework assignments will be collected at the
beginning of the class period on the days indicated in the course outline. To be accepted for grading the homework should be
written up according to the homework format used throughout the sophomore curriculum. If you have any question as to what this entails
please see me. Late homework will not be
accepted. COURSE TESTING The examinations will be closed book and closed notes unless the instructor indicates otherwise. However, one 8.5" x 11" sheet with notes written on one side will be permitted. This sheet must be signed and turned in with each exam. Students found with any additional notes or crib material will receive a zero for the examination. No makeup examinations will be given. If an examination is missed with an approved excuse, the grade received on the final examination will also be used for the missed exam. FINAL COURSE GRADE Your final course grade will be based upon the following weighted average:
Note: You must pass the exams to pass the class TEXT S.S. Rao, Mechanical Vibrations, Addison-Wesley, 4th ed., 2004. |
