Corning Ware
Ô was introduced in 1958, and has had much success throughout the years. Corning WareÔ is part of Corning's Consumer Housewares division, which also includes: Pyrex, Corelle, Revere Ware, and Visions. This division employs about 3,500 people in 20 manufacturing sites. This division generated $630 million in revenues in 1996, and Corning, Inc.'s total revenue for 1996 was $3.7 billion. However, on May 5, 1997 Corning, Inc. announced that it was looking to sell its Consumer Housewares business. This sale would allow Corning to focus its future growth in communications (fiber optic cables) and environmental and advanced materials businesses. And on April 1, 1998, it was announced that Corning, Inc. had completed the sale of the Consumer Housewares division to an affiliate of Borden, Inc.
