Installing the full version of Spartan
on Rose-Hulman computers (this procedure works on Windows XP and
Windows 7; it has
not been checked on other versions of Windows).
Procedure:
1. Log in to the computer using an account with Administrator privileges.
2. Select Run
in the Start Menu, and type \\rose-hulman.edu\dfs\Software
3. Open the Course
Software folder
4. Open the Spartan
folder and then the Spartan 10
folder
5. Run 1-Sp10V101
6. Install the software; you will need to accept the
license agreement, and change the Licensing
Option to USB hardware key.
7. After Spartan installs, it will run the Sentinel
installer; again, you will need to accept the license agreement.
8. When the Install Wizard exits, you will need to copy the hasplm
file from the Spartan 10
folder to: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Aladdin Shared\HASP
9. Reboot your computer; this should allow Spartan to
run correctly as long
as the computer is connected to the Rose-Hulman network.
10. Please Note:
Rose-Hulman
has
40
licenses;
when
you are
finished running the software, please exit the software
before disconnecting from the
network so that others may
use the software.
11. If your computer has a multi-core processor (e.g., any Core2Duo or i7
processor), each
molecule being calculated will use (at most) one core. If you need to
perform calculations on more than one molecule, and you may save time
by setting up calculations for at least one molecule per core, and
running the calculations concurrently.
12. Please Note: If you see a dialog
box asking for an activation code, and you followed the directions
above, this means that either you are not connected to the Rose-Hulman
network, or all of the available licenses are currently in use.
Optional
Spartan 10 has a Molecular Database.
Installing this database takes a few minutes and uses several gigabytes
of hard disk space.
Procedure:
1. Log in to the computer using an account with
Administrator privileges.
2. Select Run
in the Start Menu, and type \\rose-hulman.edu\dfs\Software
3. Open the Course Software folder and then the
Spartan 10 folder
4. Run 2-SMDV100
5. Use the default installation location.
6. Allow the installation to proceed.
To check whether the installation of the database worked, run Spartan,
and build a molecule. As you add atoms, you should see the name of the
molecule you are building appear in the lower right of the Spartan
window as long as you build a molecule that is part of the database.
