by Nick Hurlburt, “When are you going to fix the commons?” “When are you guys going to give the roller hockey team a place to play?” “What are you guys doing, anyway?” These questions and others like them are quite often asked of me and other members of the student government. Now you have a chance to be able to not say “you guys”, but “what am I doing?”. Election time has come for a new Student Body President and Vice President. The students need leaders to take on the problems that exist at Rose-Hulman and make solutions. Are you a leader? I, as a member of the SGA Executive Committee and a Rose student, want to improve life at Rose and am willing to put in the effort necessary to do it. We need people to step up and say, “I can do this. I can be president, or vice president, and I can make something of myself and be a real leader for my fellow students.” If this is you, I encourage you to pick up an application outside the SGA office in the Union. All juniors are eligible to run for student body president, while juniors and sophomores can be vice president. Applications will be accepted until Monday, January 21 at 4:00 p.m., with primaries Tuesday, January 27, and the final election the following Tuesday, February 3. Maybe there are those of you out there saying, “You know, I’m interested in this, and I think maybe I could do it, but this person would be so much better.” No! If you believe you can do an excellent job, then who can dare to tell you who’s better? Please do not fall into that trap, later regretting that you “coulda, woulda, shoulda”. If you are a true leader, and are willing to put forth the effort to make this a better place, then your friends and peers need you. Back to January 23, 1998 index
