GREENCASTLE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology senior women's tennis player Sam Danesis (Akron,
Ohio/Revere) advanced to
the quarterfinals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association
Central Regional with a 3-1 mark at DePauw University this
weekend.
Danesis opened the week with a 6-0, 6-2 win over
Kalee Cassady of Washington University on Friday.
Danesis, the No. 11 seed entering the weekend,
won two Saturday victories including a 6-3, 6-2 win over No. 3
seeded Marta Drane of Denison.
Her first match of the day featured a 6-2, 6-0
victory over Tiffany Nguyen of Chicago.
Eighth-seeded Carmen VacaGuzman of Chicago ended
the singles run of Danesis with a 6-3, 6-0 victory on Sunday
morning.
In doubles action, the sixth-seeded team of
Danesis and freshman Melissa Montgomery (Alexandria/Monroe)
moved to the quarterfinals before falling on Saturday. The
duo opened the week with 8-4 victories over the teams of Katie
Regan and Kyle Scully of DePauw and Ashley Bonamer and Liz
Bajusz of Ohio Northern.
In the round of eight, the ninth-seeded doubles
team of Allison Dender and Natalie Tingir topped Rose-Hulman's
pair by a 6-1, 6-1 count.
