Ellyn Norris finished with
an unbeaten record in singles and doubles play as Rose-Hulman won twice on
Saturday. |
FRANKLIN, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology secured its spot in next month's Heartland Collegiate
Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament with victories of
8-1 over Hanover and 7-2 over Franklin on Saturday.
Rose-Hulman completed the regular season with a
second place finish in the HCAC standings at 6-1 and improved to
8-2 overall. The Engineers will join the four-team
postseason tournament field, and the champion will earn a bid to
the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Senior Sam Danesis (Akron, Ohio/ Revere)
earned victories in both matches as she swept No. 1 singles and the No. 1 doubles spot
with freshman Melissa Montgomery (Alexandria, Ind/Munroe)
to lead the team effort.
The doubles duo of Megan Chann (Columbia,
Mo./Rock Bridge) and Sage Sackett (Kalamazoo, Mich./
Mattawan) also finished 2-0 at the No. 2 spot.
Sophomore Klara Schroederus (Glenview,
Ill/Glenbrook South) teamed with sophomore Ellyn Norris (Penn Laird, Va.)
to complete a sweep of the day's doubles matches.
Chann, Schroederus and Norris compiled 2-0
records at the fourth, fifth and sixth singles positions to
round out the performance.
Rose-Hulman stands 8-2 overall and will return to
action at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional at
DePauw University next weekend.
