Sam Danesis advanced to
the ITA Round of eight. |
GREENCASTLE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology s ophomore Sam
Danesis (Akron, Ohio) and freshman Megan Chann (Columbia, Mo.)
narrowly dropped matches in the Intercollegiate Tennis
Association Central Region quarterfinals on Sunday.
Danesis claimed wins of 6-2, 6-1
over Tricia Wilks of DePauw, 6-4, 6-4 over Katy Zdanowski of
Denison and 6-3, 6-2 over Chrissy Hu from Chicago to advance to
the singles round of eight.
On Sunday, Greer Mackie of
DePauw narrowly topped Danesis by a margin of 7-6, 1-6, 6-3.
The tightly contested first set tiebreaker finished with a 10-8
win for Mackie.
Danesis and Chann combined
to reach the doubles quarterfinals with a pair of wins on
Saturday. In Sunday's quarterfinal match, the duo dropped
a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 matchup against DePauw.
The field began with the
96 top ranked NCAA Division III players in the Midwest.
The performance marked Rose-Hulman's best ever performance in an
ITA sanctioned event.
Junior Katy Zawadski
(Yorktown) and Chann each dropped a pair of matches on Friday and Saturday to
round out Rose-Hulman's singles efforts. |
