TERRE HAUTE, IND. --
The Rose-Hulman women’s
tennis team improved to 3-2 on the season and 3-1 in Heartland
Conference play with wins over Bluffton University and Defiance
College on Saturday.
Sophomore Sam
Danesis (Akron, Ohio) finished the day 4-0 with a pair of wins at No. 1
singles and two victories at No. 1 doubles with freshman teammate Megan Chann
(Columbia, Mo.).
Chann had a No. 4
singles win against Bluffton to go with the doubles victories to finish the day
at 3-0. Danesis and Chann remained undefeated on the season at No. 1 doubles
after Saturday’s matches.
Senior Mandy
Grantz (Rapid City, S.D.) finished the day 2-0 at No. 2 singles with a 7-5,
6-0 victory against Bluffton and a 7-5, 6-3 win over Defiance.
Junior Katy
Zawadski (Yorktown, Ind.) and freshman Caitlin Kohli (Lima, Ohio)
were both 2-0 after Saturday’s matches with Zawadski winning 6-0, 6-0 and 6-3,
6-3 at No. 3 singles and Kohli taking both matches at No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-1 and
6-4, 6-3.
In doubles, the team
of juniors Kristin Wilson (Lake Zurich, Ill.) and Maritza Gonzalez
(Vancouver, Wash.) earned a pair of wins at No. 2 singles defeating the pair
from Bluffton 8-1, and Defiance’s pair 8-2.
The Engineer women’s
squad will be back on the courts tomorrow, September 16, at 9 a.m. when they
travel to Franklin College to compete in the Rusty Hughes Franklin
Invitational.
