Engineers Split First Two HCAC

ANDERSON, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology opened its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference
season with a split against Anderson and Manchester on Saturday.
Defending league champion Manchester topped the Engineers 7-2 in
the opener, before Rose-Hulman was forced to travel to Anderson
to complete the day of action due to rain.
The Engineers captured the nightcap by a 6-3 count to secure the
split.
Sophomore Sam Danesis (Akron, Ohio) paced Rose-Hulman
with a perfect 4-0 record. Danesis earned wins of 7-5, 6-2 over
Manchester and 6-0, 6-1 over Anderson in singles.
In doubles, Danesis combined with freshman Megan Chann
(Columbia, Mo.) for a perfect 2-0 record, after wins of 8-5
and 8-6. Chann added a singles victory against the Ravens.
Other singles winners included Katy Zawadski (Yorktown)
at No. 3 singles against Anderson and Caitlin Kohli (Lima,
Ohio) at No. 6 singles against the Ravens.
Rose-Hulman stands 1-2 on the season and returns to action next
Saturday, hosting Bluffton and Defiance in league play at the
Joy Hulbert Tennis Center.
