  Rose-Hulman News Engineers Fall Short by 6-3 Count to Marian

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's tennis team dropped its 2007 home opener by a 6-3 count to Marian College on Wednesday.

Sophomore Sam Danesis (Akron, Ohio) led the Engineers with singles and doubles victories at the No. 1 positions.  Danesis topped Loriann Laugle 6-1, 6-0 in singles play and teamed up with freshman Megan Chann (Columbia, Mo.) for a 9-8 tiebreaker victory.

Junior Katy Zawadski (Yorktown) added a victory at No. 3 singles spot.  Zawadski trailed by one set but led 3-2 in the second set when Hannah Swim retired from the match.

Rose-Hulman stands 0-1 on the season and returns to action at Manchester on Saturday.  The Engineers will square off with Anderson and Manchester in the league opening matches.
