NEW ALBANY. IND. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology doubles team of sophomore Sam Danesis (Akron,
Ohio) and freshman Megan Chann (Columbia, Mo.) captured top
honors at the IU-Southeast Invitational to highlight Saturday's
effort at the individual tourney.
Danesis and Chann rallied from a pair of 7-4 deficits to earn
9-8 victories in wins over Bellarmine and IU-Southeast.
They claimed the first tiebreak by with a 7-5
victory, then won 7-4 in the finale of the nightcap.
A pair of second-place performances also provided depth to the
day. The doubles tandem of Maritza Gonzalez (Vancouver,
Wash.)
and Kristin Wilson (Lake Zurich, Ill.) topped West
Virginia State by an 8-6 margin, then dropped an 8-6 decision to
IU-Southeast.
Junior Betsy Marschand (Galveston) also finished second
with a 1-1 record. Marschand topped Bellarmine 8-5 in the opener before falling to West Virginia
State in the nightcap.
