No. 2 Seed Rose-Hulman Competes in HCAC Women's Tennis Championship on Friday and Saturday

Sam Danesis leads the Engineers with a 13-2 singles record and a 12-2 doubles mark.

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman women's tennis team has earned the No. 2 seed for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament, scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the West Indy Racquet Club.

The Engineers stand 9-4 on the season and completed conference play with a 7-1 league record. Rose-Hulman opens the tournament on Friday at 3 p.m. with a matchup against No. 7 seed Bluffton University (2-12, 2-6 HCAC).

The winner of the HCAC Tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship next May.

Freshman Sam Danesis (Akron, Ohio/Revere) leads the Engineers with a 13-2 singles record and a 12-2 doubles mark at the No. 1 position this season. Fellow freshman Julie Hopkins (Terre Haute/ Northview/ Saddlebrook Acad.) stands 9-3 in singles play and 8-3 in doubles matches as the No. 2 player.

Rose-Hulman has enjoyed a turnaround of the tennis program this fall, after the Engineers finished 1-8 last season. The records and pairings for the weekend tournament are below.
