Rose-Hulman Women's Tennis Improves to 4-1 with Sweep of Bluffton and Defiance

Sam Danesis swept a pair of two-set No. 1 singles wins without allowing a game.

BLUFFTON, OHIO -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's tennis team improved to 4-1 on the season and 3-1 in conference play with a 6-3 win over Bluffton and a 7-2 victory over Defiance on Saturday.

Freshman Sam Danesis (Akron, Ohio/Revere) led the way with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins at the No. 1 singles position. Danesis combined with sophomore Katy Zawadski (Yorktown) and freshman Julie Hopkins (Terre Haute/Northview/Saddlebrook Acad.) for a pair of wins in doubles.

Hopkins and Zawadski also swept singles victories at the No. 2 and No. 4 positions, while junior Mandy Grantz (Rapid City, S.D./Stevens) added a pair of three-set victories at the No. 3 spot.

Victoria Lee (Indianapolis/Indiana Academy) pitched in with two doubles wins, combining with Zawadski and sophomore Betsy Marschand (Galveston/Lewis Cass) at the No. 3 spot.

Rose-Hulman returns to action at Mount St. Joseph with Transylvania next Saturday.
