Sam Danesis
Named HCAC Women's Athlete of the Month
To earn the award, Danesis was selected as the top female athlete in any sport at any institution during the month of September by league sports information directors. Each college is permitted one nominee for the entire athletic department per month, and the nine nominees are placed on one ballot for voting. Danesis is the first Rose-Hulman athlete to be named the HCAC Player of the Month, and is the first male or female tennis player to earn the conference award. Danesis has been the anchor at No. 1 singles and doubles for the Engineers squad, posting an 11-2 overall singles record and an 11-1 doubles mark. The freshman has been perfect in conference action posting perfect 7-0 records at No. 1 singles and doubles. Her efforts have helped the Engineers achieve an 8-3 record this fall, after the team finished 1-8 last season. This past weekend, Danesis earned a No. 9 seed at the ITA Central Regional in Ohio. Her seed was the first by any Rose-Hulman tennis player at an ITA event. Danesis also earned HCAC Player of the Week award in women’s tennis for the week ending Sept. 17. |
