  Rose-Hulman News Women's Soccer Tops Defending HCAC Champion Transylvania

LEXINGTON, KY. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology secured its hold on first place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with a 3-1 victory over defending league champion Transylvania University on Saturday.

Rose-Hulman struck first on a goal by senior Julie Roebel (Cypress, Texas, Cy-Fair) in the 34th minute when she found the back off the net after a rebound on a cross.

The Engineers increased their lead to 2-0, just four minutes later when Elisabeth Baca (Santa Fe, N.M., Santa Fe) scored off an assist by senior Jennifer Gordon (Zionsville, Ind., Zionsville) in the 38th minute.

Transylvania cut the lead at 2-1 on a goal off a corner kick in the 63rd minute, but Rose-Hulman would strike again on a goal by senior Liz Ridgeway (Grosse Point, Mich., Northwestern Univ.) in the 81st minute, her first of the 2007 season.  Freshman Molly Richardson (Orange Park, Fla./St. John's Country Day) provided the assist.

Rose-Hulman improved to 8-2 on the season and 3-0 in HCAC play with the victory.  Transylvania dropped to 4-4 overall and is 1-1 in league contests.  The Engineers travel to DePauw University on Wednesday night for a 6 p.m. matchup.
