Tyler Goble -- 165 Pound Champion at the Midstates

ANGOLA, IND. – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology sophomore Tyler Goble (Bloomington/South) won the 165-pound championship to lead a strong effort at the Midstates Wrestling Conference Championship on Saturday.

 

Sophomore Ryan Schalk (Centreville, Va./Westfield) added a third-place finish at 165 pounds to lead eight placements at the Midstates Conference meet.

 

Goble defeated Lucas Morris of Tri-State 17-0 in the semifinals and topped Jon Forbes of MacMurray 4-0 to claim Midstates Conference title honors for the second straight year.

 

Schalk topped Justin McCarl 17-2 in his opening round match, then defeated Josh Sasfy of Mount St. Joseph to reach the semifinals.  Stephen Mosier of Wabash narrowly earned a 6-4 victory, before Schalk pinned Adam Walters of Tri-State to secure third place.

 

Other placements for Rose-Hulman included freshman Greg Williams (Boonville) with a fifth at 184 pounds; junior Tobin Bolton (Fletcher, Ohio/Miami East), freshman Anthony Finagan (Springfield, Ill./Lamphier) and freshman Jeremiah Wolfe (New Salisbury/North Harrison) with sixth-place efforts; sophomore Dan Goodwin (Las Vegas, Nevada) with a seventh; and sophomore John Sullivan (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) with an eighth.

 

Rose-Hulman returns to action at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Regional at Manchester College on Saturday.
