Rose-Hulman Tops MacMurray in American Cancer Society Benefit Wrestling Match
TERRE HAUTE, IND. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology wrestling team earned a 36-12 victory over MacMurray College in the American Cancer Society benefit match at the Sports and Recreation Center on Wednesday.
Sophomore Dan Goodwin (Las Vegas, Nev./Rancho) opened the evening with a pin at 133 pounds for the Engineers. The lead expanded to 17-6 with a forfeit victory by sophomore Jacob Wise (Indianapolis/Warren Central) and the first career victory for freshman Anthony Finagan (Springfield, Ill./Lamphier) by a 15-1 margin.
An intermission followed for a check presentation to the American Cancer Society, featuring Rose-Hulman President Dr. Gerald Jakubowski, athletic director Jeff Jenkins, Engineer wrestling coaches Greg Archer, Mark Buti and Tony Karras, MacMurray coach Jerry Kelly and Wabash Valley ACS Executive Director Mike Longest.
Other winners included freshman Tyler Thornton (Willard, Ohio) at 174 pounds by a 7-1 count; freshman Greg Williams (Boonville) and freshman Chad Coxon (Ortonville, Mich./ Powers Catholic) by forfeit at 184 and 197 pounds; and junior Jesse Evans (Rose City, Mich./Ogemaw Heights) by a 13-3 core at the heavyweight division.
