Dan Goodwin earned second place honors at 133 pounds to lead four Engineer placements.

N. MANCHESTER, IND. – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology junior Dan Goodwin (Las Vegas, Nev.) finished second at 133 pounds to lead five Engineer placements at the 2006 Little State Championships at Manchester College on Friday and Saturday.

 

Goodwin finished 3-1 overall with a pair of pins to earn a slot in the championship match, before falling to Shane Perkey of NCAA Division II Indianapolis.

 

Two Rose-Hulman wrestlers captured third-place honors.  Sophomore Tyler Goble (Bloomington/South) and junior Jesse Evans (Rose City, Mich.) each dropped early matches before winning the consolation bracket of the championships.

 

Goble compiled a 5-1 mark with four consecutive wins, including two pins, at the 165-pound division.  Evans also compiled a 5-1 record after winning four consecutive decisions in the consolation bracket.

 

Sophomore Ryan Schalk (Centreville, Va.) pitched in with a fifth-place finish at 157 pounds.  Schalk finished 4-2 overall with three victories by decision.

 

Freshman Tyler Thornton (Willard, Ohio) rounded out the placements with a seventh-place effort at 184 pounds.  Thornton finished 2-2 overall with a pair of pins.

 

Rose-Hulman travels to the Ohio Northern Invitational next Saturday in Ada.
