  Rose-Hulman News Defiance's Strong First Half Too Much For Engineers

Theresa Henke led the way for the Engineers with a career-high 14 points.
DEFIANCE, OHIO -- The Rose-Hulman women's basketball team fell in the regular season final by a final score of 83-61 to host Defiance College on Saturday afternoon.

The Engineer scoring effort was led by freshman Theresa Henke (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) who netted a career-high 14 points in the loss.  Henke finished 7-12 from the floor and collected five rebounds.

Sophomore Shayna Banet (Canton, Ga./Woodstock) led the Rose-Hulman rebounding effort grabbing a career-high eight  boards and scoring 13 points.

Senior Jill Floyd (Bloomington, Ill./Olympia) rounded out the double-figure scorers for the Engineers finishing with 10 points connecting on two her three three-point attempts and finishing a perfect four of four from free throw line.

Defiance got off to a strong start, scoring the first 13 points of the contest and connecting on 15 of their 27 first half shots to build a 48-16 halftime lead that the Engineers could not overcome.

Rose-Hulman outscored the Yellow Jackets 45-35 in the second half shooting 50% from the field, but it was not enough as Defiance scored 33 points off of Engineer turnovers and knocked down 37 of their 44 free throw attempts in the victory.

The loss drops Rose-Hulman to 11-14 on the season as they finish the regular season with a 7-9 mark in HCAC play. 

The Engineers will be the six seed in the upcoming HCAC Tournament and will travel to take on the third seeded Transylvania Pioneers on Tuesday evening.
