TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference leader Manchester College withstood a second half charge from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology to earn a 47-41 women's basketball victory on Saturday.

Rachel Wilkinson led Manchester with 15 points, as Rose-Hulman's defense held the Spartans to just 38% shooting from the field.

For Rose-Hulman, junior Liz Ridgway (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Northwestern U.) paced the offense with 16 points and eight rebounds.  Senior Jill Floyd (Bloomington, Ill./Olympia) added eight points for the Engineers.

Other key contributors for the Engineers included senior Katie Tharp (Linton) with six points and six rebounds; and sophomore Shayna Banet (Canton, Ga./Woodstock) with six points.

Manchester held an 11-point lead with 14:20 left in the second half, before a Rose-Hulman charge made the score 41-37 with 3:33 left on two straight baskets from Tharp.  Manchester stepped up its defensive effort to hold the Engineers without a field goal over the next three minutes to secure the victory.

The Spartans improved to 16-7 overall and 11-3 in conference play with the victory, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 11-13 and 7-8 in league play.  The Engineers conclude the regular season at Defiance College next Saturday.
