TERRE HAUTE, IND. --
Anderson University relied on a solid defensive effort to
top Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 42-26 in women's
basketball action on Wednesday night.
Mel Hawthorne and
Kayla Martin reached double figures with 12 and 10 points,
respectively, to lead the victors. The Ravens held
Rose-Hulman to 21% shooting with a strong overall defensive
effort.
Junior Liz
Ridgway (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Northwestern U.) led the
Rose-Hulman offense with 10 points and three steals.
Ridgway added five rebounds and finished 5-10 from the
field.
Other key
contributors for the Engineers included sophomore Bethany
Brisco (Alexandria) with five points; senior Jill
Floyd (Bloomington, Ill./Olympia) with four points; and
senior Brittany Moline (Indianapolis/ Perry Meridian)
with nine rebounds.
Both teams played
strong defense in the first half, with Anderson holding a
14-12 edge at the break. Rose-Hulman held the Ravens
to 25% in the first half to remain within striking distance.
Anderson improved
to 15-7 overall and 10-4 in conference play with the
victory, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 11-12 and 7-7 in
league games. The Engineers return to action on
Saturday at Manchester College.
