TERRE HAUTE, IND. --
Hanover College relied on a 14-3 run midway through the second half
to earn a 68-58 victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in
women's basketball action on Saturday.
Freshman Micah Whitted led the
Hanover offense with 13 points, while Tori Franz and Kim Byrdwell
had 11 points each for the victors.
Senior Jill Floyd
(Bloomington, Ill./ Olympia) paced Rose-Hulman's offensive
attack with 17 points on 5-9 from the field and 5-5 from the free
throw line.
Freshman Donna Marsh
(Mobile, Ala./Baker) recorded a double-double with 11 points and
12 rebounds as part of the Rose-Hulman effort.
Senior Brittany Moline
(Indianapolis/ Perry Meridian) finished 6-8 from the foul line
in an eight-point effort, while junior Liz Ridgway (Grosse
Pointe, Mich./Northwestern U.) added eight points and eight
rebounds for the Engineers.
Hanover shot 44% from the
field to earn a 33-31 halftime lead, after Rose-Hulman closed the
first half on a 9-2 run to move within two points at the break.
In the second half, the
Panthers jumped out to a 64-51 advantage, before a three-pointer by
Floyd and two free throws by Moline trimmed the deficit to six
points. Hanover buried four free throws in the final minute to
secure the victory.
Hanover improved to 11-5 on
the season and 5-2 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play
with the victory, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 7-9 overall and 3-4
in league matchups. The Engineers host Anderson University in
another HCAC matchup on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
