TERRE HAUTE, IND. --
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology earned the Clabber Girl Trophy
for the fourth consecutive time with a 77-53 victory over St.
Mary-of-the-Woods College on Monday night.
The Engineers shot 47% from
the field and outrebounded St. Mary-of-the-Woods by a 55-20 margin
to improve to 6-8 overall this season.
Junior Liz Ridgway
(Grosse Pointe, Mich./Northwestern U.) led the balanced scoring
attack with 14 points and added six rebounds. Ridgway shot 6-8
from the field with one block.
Freshman Donna Marsh
(Mobile, Ala./Baker) and senior Jill Floyd (Bloomington,
Ill./Olympia) also reached double figures with 13 and 11 points
each.
St. Mary-of-the-Woods was
led by Kaiti Nease with 17 points off the bench. Brooke Brown
added 16 points for the Pomeroys.
The Engineers narrowed the
all-time Clabber Girl Trophy series to 11-4 with the victory,
marking the fourth consecutive season that Rose-Hulman has won the
matchup.
Other key contributors to
the Engineer attack included senior Katie Tharp (Linton) with
eight points and eight rebounds; and senior Candace Procter
(Southfield, Mich./Groves), sophomore Shayna Banet (Canton,
Ga./Woodstock), freshman Theresa Henke (Alexandria,
Ky./Bishop Brossart) with six points each.
Rose-Hulman led 39-31 at
the half, then outscored the Pomeroys 20-5 over the first nine
minutes of the second half to secure the win.
The 6-8 Engineers return to
action on Tuesday night with a home matchup against Robert
Morris-Springfield at 6 p.m. St. Mary-of-the-Woods dropped to
4-13 on the season.
