TERRE HAUTE, IND. --
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology placed two players in double
figures and relied on strong defense to defeat Mount St. Joseph
54-42 in women's basketball action on Wednesday night.
Senior Brittany Moline
(Indianapolis/Perry Meridian) and freshman Donna Marsh
(Mobile, Ala./Baker) tied for team-high honors with 11 points
each.
Moline's mark established a
career-high in scoring in a performance that featured three assists,
three rebounds and three steals.
Marsh tallied her fifth
double-double of the season with 10 rebounds, along with five
blocked shots.
Senior Candace Procter
(Southfield, Mich./ Groves) tied for second place on the
single-game steals list with six, including a key steal that led to
her own three-point play during a second half spurt. She added
seven points, three rebounds and three assists.
Senior Jill Floyd
(Bloomington, Ill./Olympia) added seven points and three steals,
while senior Katie Tharp (Linton) contributed six points,
nine rebounds and four assists to the effort.
Ashleigh Stallkamp led all
scorers with 21 points on 9-16 from the field to pace the Mount St.
Joseph attack.
Mount St. Joseph held an
18-17 halftime advantage by holding the Engineers to 27% from the
floor. Rose-Hulman responded with 37 points in the second
half, including an 18-24 free throw performance that helped secure
the victory.
Rose-Hulman improved to 5-7
overall and 3-2 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play
with the victory. Mount St. Joseph dropped to 3-9 overall and
2-3 in league contests. The Engineers host undefeated HCAC
leader Manchester College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
