KALAMAZOO, MICH. --
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology placed three players in double
figures and relied on a career best performance from freshman
Donna Marsh (Mobile, Ala./Baker) to defeat the College of
Wooster 64-49 on Saturday.
Marsh scored 20 points and
grabbed 19 rebounds to establish career-high totals in each
category. She finished 7-13 from the field with five blocked
shots and three assists in the win. The 19 rebounds by Marsh
tie for third place in Rose-Hulman single-game history.
Other Engineers reaching
double figures included senior Katie Tharp (Linton) with 17
points and senior Candace Procter (Southfield, Mich./Groves)
with a career-high 15 points.
Tharp finished 6-11 from
the field with three rebounds and three steals, while missing a
career-high in scoring by just one point.
Procter shot 6-11 from the
field with eight assists, four rebounds and three steals in a solid
all-around effort.
Rose-Hulman jumped out to a
nine-point halftime lead due to 15 points and 10 rebounds in the
opening 20 minutes from Marsh.
In the second half, Wooster
trimmed the Engineer lead to six points at 34-28 on a three-pointer
by Kym Wenz at the 18:51 mark. Rose-Hulman responded with
back-to-back field goals from Procter, Tharp and Marsh to gain a
40-28 lead with 16:24 remaining.
The Engineers pushed the
advantage to as high as 19 points in the second half, while Wooster
was unable to bring the margin within 10 points during the remaining
16 minutes of play.
Rose-Hulman improved to 4-5
with the victory and scored a season-high with its total of 64
points. Wooster dropped to 3-5 on the campaign. The
Engineers will square off with the University of the Redlands at 2
p.m. on Sunday in the final game of the Kalamazoo College Classic.
