TETERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The
Rose-Hulman women’s basketball team remained undefeated in Heartland
Conference play with a 38-30 victory over visiting Franklin College
on Wednesday evening.
Sophomore Shayna Banet (Canton, Ga./Woodstock) led all
scorers with a career-high 15 points, connecting on nine of her 12
free throw attempts.
Freshman Donna Marsh (Mobile, Ala./Baker) tied a Rose-Hulman
school record with seven blocked shots and collected 11 rebounds,
while fellow freshman Eli Baca (Santa Fe, N.M.) grabbed a
career-high seven rebounds in the victory.
Other key contributors
included senior Katie Tharp (Linton) with seven points and
six boards, and freshman Theresa Henke (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop
Brossart) with six points and four rebounds.
The Engineer defense throttled the Grizzles, as Franklin was held to
16% from the field, including a 9% field goal percentage in the
first half.
Rose-Hulman won the battle
in the paint outscoring Franklin 20-10 and capitalized on eight
second chance points. The Engineers pulled away in the second
half, connecting on 17 of 23 free throw opportunities.
With the win, the Engineers improved to 3-2 on the season and 2-0 in
HCAC play. The women’s team will return to action on Saturday
at 1 p.m. with another league matchup against Bluffton.
