TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on a balanced scoring attack to hold off a late Hanover College rally and earn a 52-51 women's basketball victory on Saturday.

Lacey Hornaday missed a running shot in the lane as time expired as the Engineers improved to 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.

Junior Liz Ridgway (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Northwestern U.), sophomore Shayna Banet (Canton, Ga./ Woodstock) and senior Jill Floyd (Bloomington, Ill./Olympia) each scored 11 points to pace the Engineer attack.

Ridgway added 11 rebounds and two assists for her second career double-double.  Banet pitched in with seven rebounds and two steals, while Floyd had three assists.

Other key contributors for Rose-Hulman included senior Katie Tharp (Linton) with nine points and five rebounds; and senior Brittany Moline (Indianapolis/Perry Meridian) with seven points, five rebounds and four assists.

Molly Martin led Hanover with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Micah Whitted added 16 points, five assists and five steals to lead the Panthers offense.

With the score tied at 49-49, Banet buried two free throws with 35 seconds left to give the Engineers a two-point edge.  Rachel Walters answered with a layup at the 17-second mark to tie the score for the second time on the day at 51-51.

The Engineers pounded the ball inside to Ridgway on the next possession, who was fouled by Martin with 10.4 seconds left.  Ridgway missed the first free throw but buried the second to give Rose-Hulman the 52-51 lead and set the stage for the final drive to the basket.

Rose-Hulman held Hanover to just 29% shooting in the game, including 17% in the first half, with a strong team defensive effort.  The Engineers also outrebounded a Hanover squad that entered the game with a 20.7 rebound per game advantage by a 42-32 mark.

Rose-Hulman stands 2-2 overall and 1-0 in league play, while Hanover dropped to 2-2 and 0-1 in HCAC games.  The Engineers host Franklin College on Wednesday at 7:30.
