TERRE HAUTE, IND. --
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology improved to 1-1 on the women's
basketball season with a strong defensive effort in a 59-36 win over
Earlham College on Saturday.
Senior Jill Floyd
(Bloomington, Ill./Olympia) paced a balanced Rose-Hulman scoring
attack with 15 points on 4-7 from three-point range.
Freshman Donna Marsh
(Mobile, Ala./Baker) added eight points, 10 rebounds and three
blocked shots, while sophomore Shayna Banet (Canton,
Ga./Woodstock) pitched in with eight points, seven rebounds and
four assists.
Other key contributors for
the Engineer attack included sophomore Julie Hart (La Porte)
with six points on a perfect 2-2 from three-point range; junior
Liz Ridgway (Grosse Pointe, Mich./ Northwestern U.) with four
points and nine rebounds; and senior Katie Tharp (Linton)
with four points and seven rebounds.
Rose-Hulman shot 39% from
the field for the game and held the Quakers to just 14% shooting
from the field in the first half. The Engineers hit 5-9
three-point field goals on their way to a 34-12 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Earlham
trimmed the margin to 39-24 with 13:53 remaining in the contest.
Rose-Hulman responded with nine straight points, including two
three-pointers from Floyd, to gain a 48-24 lead and secure the
victory.
Rose-Hulman improved to 1-1
on the season and returns to action on Tuesday at Illinois Institute
of Technology. Earlham dropped to 0-2 on the campaign.
