  Rose-Hulman News Rose-Hulman Reaches 20 Wins with 62-43 Victory Over MSJ

TERRE HAUTE, IND. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team passed the 20-win plateau for the first time in program history with a 62-43 victory over Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday.

The Engineers improved to 20-3 overall and 12-2 on the conference season with the win.  Manchester College retained a one-half game lead in the league standings with a victory over Bluffton University.

Sophomore Liz Ridgway (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Northwestern U.) led the Rose-Hulman attack with her first career double-double.  Ridgway scored 17 points and added a career-high 10 rebounds to lead the Engineer offense.

Junior Jill Floyd (Bloomington, Ill./Olympia) also reached double figures with 15 points.  Senior Rebekah Forsyth (Farmersburg/N. Central) pitched in with nine points and eight rebounds for the Engineers.

The balanced attack also featured senior Suzy Carlson (State College, Pa.) with five points, seven rebounds and five assists; junior Candace Procter (Southfield, Mich./Groves) with six points; and junior Brittany Moline (Indianapolis/Perry Meridian) with six rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Rose-Hulman won the game with defense, holding Mount St. Joseph without a point for the game's first eight minutes and holding the Lions to just 34% from the field in the game.  The Engineers also outrebounded Mount St. Joseph by a 51-28 margin, led by an impressive 22 offensive boards.

Rose-Hulman scored the game's first 12 points and never looked back.  Two layups by Forsyth, two baskets by Ridgway and two scores from Floyd led the early rally. 

Mount St. Joseph closed to within seven points on two occasions, but the Engineers relied on a 13-2 run midway through the second half to turn a 32-25 lead into a 48-29 advantage.

Rose-Hulman improved to 20-3 overall, while Mount St. Joseph dropped to 6-16 and 1-13 in the HCAC.  The Engineers host Defiance College in another Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday at 1.
