ANDERSON, IND. – Rose-Hulman
Institute of Technology rallied from a 13-point first-half deficit and
improved to 17-2 on the season with a 54-50 women's basketball victory
at Anderson University on Wednesday night.
Senior Rebekah Forsyth
(Farmersburg/N. Central) paced the Engineer attack with an 18-point,
13-rebound effort for her 53rd career double-double. Senior Suzy
Carlson (State College, Pa.) added 17 points for Rose-Hulman, while
junior Jill Floyd (Bloomington, Ill./Olympia) had eight.
Melenda Hawthorne scored 13
points to lead the Anderson attack, while Katla Martin added 12. The
Engineers held Anderson to 28% shooting and just 20 points in the second
half, while hitting 19 of 28 free throw attempts to overcome a 28%
shooting performance in the game.
With the victory, Rose-Hulman
moved to 9-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play and
remains tied for first in the league with Manchester College. The
Engineers also added to their school record for victories in a women's
basketball season.
Anderson jumped out to a 28-15
lead on a three-pointer by Lauren Vail with 3:50 left in the first half.
Rose-Hulman rallied with a 10-2 run to close the first half to move
within 30-25 at the break.

In the second half, Anderson
maintained an eight-point lead at 43-35 on a layup by Tiffany Bowsher
with 6:39 left. The Engineers answered with a 10-3 run to move within
46-45 on a layup by junior Candace Procter (Southfield, Mich./Groves)
with 4:16 left.
Rose-Hulman finally gained the
lead at 47-46 on two free throws by Carlson with 3:33 left. A
three-pointer by Floyd and two more Carlson tosses made the score 52-47
with 51 seconds left.
Hawthorne answered with a
three-pointer to move the Ravens within 52-50 with 41 seconds left.
Forsyth clinched the victory with a pair of free throws with four
seconds remaining.
Rose-Hulman stands 17-2 overall
and travels to Bluffton University for another conference matchup on
Saturday. Anderson dropped to 11-8 overall and 6-4 in league play.
