  Rose-Hulman News Three in Double Figures Lead Rose-Hulman Past Hanover

TERRE HAUTE, IND. – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology placed three players in double figures and improved to 16-2 with a 63-47 women's basketball victory over Hanover College at Hulbert Arena on Saturday.

With the victory, the Engineers remain in a tie for first place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings at 8-1 and have won 13 of their last 14 games.

Senior Suzy Carlson (State College, Pa.) led all scorers with 17 points on 5-6 from the field and 6-6 from the free-throw line.  Junior Jill Floyd (Bloomington, Ill./Olympia) added a season-best 16 points on  5-7 from the field, and senior Rebekah Forsyth (Farmersburg/ N. Central) pitched in 15 points and eight rebounds.

Other key contributors in Rose-Hulman's balanced attack included junior Katie Tharp (Linton) with seven points and two steals, and junior Brittany Moline (Indianapolis/ Perry Meridian) with seven assists and five rebounds.

The Engineers also held Hanover to just 35% from the field and outrebounded the Panthers 35-28.  Kim Byrdwell and Rachel Walters led the Hanover offense with nine points each.

Suzy Carlson led all scorers with 17 points.

Rose-Hulman shot 50% from the field in the first half and hit 4-5 from three-point range to earn a 36-23 lead at the intermission.  Hanover battled to within six points at 28-22 on a three-pointer by Kristin Malone with 3:09 left in the half, but the Engineers closed the first half on an 8-1 run for the 13-point lead.

In the second half, Hanover whittled the deficit to 11 points on one occasion, but a solid Rose-Hulman free-throw shooting performance helped maintain a lead of up to 22 points.  The Engineers buried 11 of 12 free throws in the second half and 19-23 in the game.

Rose-Hulman continued to add to its single-season school record for victories and continues to share first place in the HCAC standings with Manchester College.  The Engineers travel to Anderson University for another league game on Wednesday.
