School Record Winning Streak Ends with Loss at Manchester

N. MANCHESTER, IND. – Defending Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference champion Manchester College snapped Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology's school record 11-game winning streak with a 56-48 women's basketball victory on Saturday.

Senior Rebekah Forsyth (Farmersburg/ N. Central) led all scorers with 18 points and seven rebounds.  Senior Suzy Carlson (State College, Pa.) and junior Jill Floyd (Bloomington, Ill./Olympia) each had eight points for the Engineers.

Manchester held the Engineers to 39% from the field and forced 24 turnovers as Rose-Hulman dropped to 14-2 overall and 7-1 in conference play.

Manchester improved to 10-6 and moved within one-half game of the conference lead at 6-1 in league play with the victory.  Jessica Henn led the Spartans with 14 points and Heather Terflinger pitched in with 11.  The Engineers held Manchester to 29% from the field, but the Spartans hit 23 of 28 free throw attempts to earn the victory.

Jill Floyd pitched in with eight points on six free throws.

Rose-Hulman led 21-18 at the half by holding Manchester to just 25% shooting from the field.  The Engineers opened the second half with six straight points to capture a 27-18 advantage.

Manchester responded with a 14-4 run to claim a 32-31 lead with 12:27 left on a three-pointer by Lauren Kalis.  Field goals by Forsyth and junior Katie Tharp (Linton) put the Engineers back in front 35-32.

Manchester answered with another impressive run, a 15-4 spurt to take a 47-39 lead late in the second half.  The Engineers trimmed the margin to six points at 54-48 but could not overcome the Spartan effort.

Rose-Hulman stands 14-2 overall and 7-1 in league play, and hosts St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in the annual Clabber Girl Trophy Game on Wednesday.  Manchester squares off with Anderson University on Wednesday.
