Rose-Hulman Women's Basketball Winning Streak Hits 11 with 68-44 Win at Mount St. Joseph

Liz Ridgway scored a career-high 18 points in the win.

TERRE HAUTE, IND. – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology extended its school record winning streak to 11 games with a 68-44 victory over Mount St. Joseph in women's basketball action on Wednesday.

The Engineers improved to 14-1 on the season and remain atop the HCAC standings at 7-0 with the win.  Rose-Hulman also established a new single-season school record with its 14th victory, with 10 games remaining in the regular season.

Sophomore Liz Ridgway (Grosse Point, Mich./Northwestern U.) led three Engineers in double figures with a career-high 18 points.  Senior Suzy Carlson (State College, Pa.) added 17 points and was a perfect 6-6 from the field, while junior Katie Tharp (Linton) added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Other key contributors for the Engineers included senior Rebekah Forsyth (Farmersburg/N. Central) and junior Jill Floyd (Bloomington, Ill./Olympia) with six points each.  Junior Brittany Moline (Indianapolis/Perry Meridian) added five points, eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks in a well-rounded effort.

Rose-Hulman led 26-22 after a defensive minded first half that featured 48% shooting from the field for the Engineers.  In the second half, Rose-Hulman held the Lions to just 21% shooting to lower their overall effort to 29%.

Suzy Carlson finished a perfect 6-6 from the floor with 17 points.

In the second half, the Engineers relied on two free throws by Tharp, a field goal by Carlson and a layup by Ridgway to take a 34-27 lead with 15:03 left. 

The run continued with two free throws by Floyd, a layup by Tharp, three points from Ridgway and a pair of Carlson free throws to make the score 43-29 at the 11:57 mark.

The lead reached a game-high 29 points on two occasions as Rose-Hulman held the Lions to six points in the first 14 minutes of the second half.

Rose-Hulman will attempt to complete a perfect first round of HCAC play with Saturday's matchup at preseason league champion selection Manchester College.  The game will be broadcast on WMHD-FM 90.7 and on the Rose-Hulman athletic website.
