Rose-Hulman Women's Basketball Moves Into First in HCAC with 70-64 Victory at Franklin

with 26 points and 13 rebounds.

FRANKLIN, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology moved into first place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball standings with a 70-64 victory over previously undefeated Franklin College on Wednesday.

 

Senior Rebekah Forsyth (Farmersburg/N. Central) led Rose-Hulman with 26 points and 13 rebounds.  Senior Suzy Carlson (State College, Pa.) added 18 points, while junior Katie Tharp (Linton) also reached double figures with 11.

 

Kelly Snider led the Franklin offense with 22 points, while Heather Harper came off the bench for 20 points for the Grizzlies.

 

Rose-Hulman jumped out to a 32-31 halftime lead after a stanza that featured five lead changes.  Franklin relied on baskets from Brittany Beehler and Courtney Swain to take a 35-34 advantage, before a layup by Forsyth gave Rose-Hulman the lead for good at 36-35.

 

The Engineer lead reached seven points at 46-39 on a three-pointer by Carlson at the 14:48 mark.  Franklin trimmed the lead back to two points at 50-48 on a layup by Harper, before an 11-2 Rose-Hulman run put the game away.  Forsyth scored two consecutive field goals and junior Jill Floyd (Bloomington, Ill./Olympia) added a three-point play to make the score 61-50 at the 6:12 mark.

 

Franklin was unable to close within less than five points in the rest of the second half.  The Grizzlies fell to 6-1 on the season and 2-1 in HCAC play, while Rose-Hulman improved to 7-1 and a perfect 3-0 in conference play. 

 

The win also allowed the Engineers to continue their best start to a season in school history.  Rose-Hulman returns to action with a home matchup against Bluffton University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
