Suzy Carlson Crosses 1,000 Point Mark,
Rose-Hulman
HANOVER, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Suzy Carlson (State College, Pa.) became the sixth player in women's basketball school history to cross the 1,000-point mark to highlight a 69-57 victory over Hanover College on Saturday afternoon.
Carlson led a balanced scoring attack with 16 points and tied a career-high with six steals. She increased her career point total to 1,015 in the effort and also pitched in with six rebounds and three assists.
Senior Rebekah Forsyth (Farmersburg/N. Central) and junior Katie Tharp (Linton) each reached double figures with 14 points, while sophomore Liz Ridgway (Grosse Pointe, Mich./ Northwestern U.) added 10 points for the Engineer attack.
With the victory, Rose-Hulman improved to 6-1 on the season and continued its best start in school history. The Engineers are also tied for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference lead at 2-0 in league play.
Four Hanover players also reached double figures in the balanced attack. Rachel Walters and Kim Hardesty each had 11 points, while Kim Byrdwell and Angie Thieman each contributed 10.
In the second half, a layup by Tharp at the 11:31 mark knotted the score at 44-44. The score sparked a 16-4 Engineer run that gave Rose-Hulman a double-figure lead for the first time in the game at 60-48 on a shot by Ridgway at the 6:41 mark.
Rose-Hulman claimed its first ever victory at Hanover and also stands 2-0 in league for the first time in school history. The Engineers travel to HCAC preseason title selection Franklin College on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
