Rebekah Forsyth Sets Rose-Hulman Women's Basketball Scoring Record in Loss to Denison

Rebekah Forsyth became the all-time leading scorer in women's basketball history at Rose-Hulman in Saturday's loss to Denison.

GREENCASTLE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Rebekah Forsyth (Farmersburg/ N. Central) became the all-time leading scorer in the history of women's basketball at the college in a 64-54 loss to Denison University on Saturday night.

 

Forsyth scored the record setting point on a layup with 18:36 left in the second half to give Rose-Hulman a 28-26 lead.  She finished the game with a team co-high total of 13 points.

 

Forsyth increased her career total to 1,418 points, surpassing the previous record of 1,411 set by Amanda Speich from 1995-99.

 

Other Rose-Hulman players in double figures included junior Katie Tharp (Linton) with 13 points; senior Suzy Carlson (State College, Pa.) with 11 points; and junior Jill Floyd (Bloomington, Ill./Olympia) with 10 points.

 

The Engineers dropped to 3-1 on the campaign with the hard-fought loss.  Rose-Hulman trailed just 56-52 with 1:57 remaining after a pair of free throws by Carlson.  Denison closed the game with an 8-2 run to secure the final margin of victory.

 

The game featured a whopping 20 lead changes along with 13 ties and was deadlocked at 24-24 at halftime.  Denison, the defending North Coast Athletic Conference champions, outshot Rose-Hulman in the second half by a 50% to 44% margin to help gain its second win of the season.

 

Kristen Sheffield led the winners with 23 points and five three-point field goals, while Amber Hill came off the bench for 11 points in 18 minutes for Denison.

 

Rose-Hulman squares off with the College of St. Elizabeth in the third-place game of the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament at DePauw University on Sunday at 2 p.m.
